... Red flag warning in effect from 11 am Saturday to 11 PM PDT
Saturday...
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a red flag
warning... which is in effect from 11 am to 11 PM PDT Saturday.
The red flag warning is an upgrade of the Fire Weather Watch.
Southwest wind will increase to 15 to 25 mph by midday Saturday
over northeast California... northwest Nevada... and the Lake Tahoe
basin... then extend into western Nevada from Highway 50 north by
early Saturday afternoon. Frequent gusts of 35 to 40 mph are
expected... with gusts over 60 mph over the higher ridges of the
Sierra. Very low minimum humidity of 5 to 10 percent is likely in
western Nevada and the lower valleys of northeast California by
Saturday afternoon... with 10 to 15 percent in the Lake Tahoe basin
and northeast California west of Highway 395.
While diminishing winds and increasing humidity are expected
Saturday night... winds over the midslopes and higher ridges of the
Sierra are likely to remain strong Saturday night into Sunday. Very
dry air is expected to persist over the higher elevations
overnight with humidity possibly remaining near or below 15
percent. As a result... the red flag warning may need to be extended
into Sunday morning.
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
will occur. Continue to check weather.Gov/Reno/fire for updates.
