... Flood Watch in effect from 10 am EDT this morning through Friday morning...
The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a
* Flood Watch for all of eastern New York and adjacent western New England. This includes the capital district... Mohawk Valley... Hudson Valley... Catskills... Adirondacks... southern Green Mountains... Berkshires and northwest Connecticut.
* From 10 am EDT this morning through Friday morning.
* A frontal boundary becoming oriented south to north today will become nearly stationary across the region later today into tonight. An abundance of moisture... with origins from the tropics... will advance northward along this frontal boundary. Rainfall is expected to become heavy at times this afternoon and tonight. Embedded thunderstorms will dramatically increase rainfall rates.
* At the present time... the axis of heavy rainfall appears to be 40 miles either side of line from the Hudson River. Total rainfall amounts by Friday morning could range between 2 and 4 inches... with higher amounts expected into the elevated areas of the Catskills... Adirondacks... southern Green Mountains... Berkshires and the Litchfield Hills. This amount of rainfall will cause rapid rises on main Stem rivers... with potential of significant rises on area streams. If thunderstorms are able to occur back to back... rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Stay tuned for further updates from your National Weather Service on this developing situation.
