regional weather discussion... Showers and isolated thunderstorms...some producing heavy rain...continue to move slowly north and northwest through the Red River valley of southern Oklahoma. At 840 am the activity was most widespread from around Pauls Valley and Tishomingo ...southeastward to Madill and Lake Texoma. 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain will be common through 10 am in these areas. Other light to moderate showers were drifting slowly southward through parts of Jefferson and Clay counties. Rainfall amounts of 1/4 to 1/2 can be expected...with locally heavier amounts. The showers and thunderstorms are in association with an upper level low moving slowly southeastward through North Texas. The best chances for rain through the morning hours will remain across south central and southeast Oklahoma and parts of western North Texas as the low continues to progress slowly eastward through the morning. Areas of south central and southeast Oklahoma will have the potential for heavy rain and possible flooding and a Flash Flood Watch remain in effect there this morning.

The record for the coldest maximum temperature for Oklahoma City for this date was 72 degrees... which had been set back in 1915. Today at Will Rogers World Airport... the high temperature has been 70 degrees... which has so far broken the 1915 record for the coldest maximum temperature for August 19th.
Precipitation records continue to break this month at Will Rogers World Airport... as another round of heavy rainfall moved through the Metro area today. Todays rainfall has so far totaled 2.95 inches at the current time... falling just short of the the record for August 19th. Last year on this date... Tropical Storm Erin produced 3.82 inches of rainfall... which is the 2nd highest rainfall total for August.
Although the daily record was not broken... the monthly August rainfall record has been broken. With todays total... the monthly accumulation was so far 9.51 inches. This breaks the previous monthly total of 8.34 inches set back in 1906.
