For the first time since early May the cool north wind re-appeared yesterday bringing with it the promise of fall, and cooler weather.
Being an autumn baby it is my favorite time of the year. I love the way the air turns fresh and brisk. There is also something about the light at this season. It has a softer touch on the landscape and the shadows begin to lengthen creating vibrant colors in the morning and afternoon. These are great picture taking days.
After a long hot summer, feelings of anticipation and energy re-emerge. The late tomatoes are planted and flowering and some romaine lettuce is just beginning to emerge. The mesquites have dropped their pods (which make great flour) and so I have been harvesting some of those. They have to be well dried before grinding so I'm going to lay them out on a nearly flat metal roof over the carport. The prickly pear cactus have huge fruit that will make some great, sweet jelly. I only wish I had more things to harvest in the upcoming harvest time of year.
