Weather Underground midday recap for Saturday, July 19, 2008. Tropical Storm Cristobal formed off the Southeast Coast Saturday. The storm was expected to move steadily northeastward up the eastern seaboard but without strengthening into a hurricane. Nonetheless, the storm did produce gusty winds and areas of showers along the Southeast Coast. This activity was expected to continue as the storm moves to the northeast. For more information on the storm, please see http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/.

Elsewhere, a long stationary front extended from the Northern Rockies, through the Northern Plains and into the Great Lakes. An area of showers and thunderstorms moved through the Northern Plains and into the Upper Midwest. There was one report of a possible tornado in central Minnesota.

A thin line of moisture that stretched from the Upper Mississippi Valley to the Southern Rockies continued to instigate scattered showers. Some scattered showers were also noted in the Northeast.

In the West, clear skies were the normal expect for coastal areas of California that were socked in by low coastal clouds.

The Northeast rose into the 80s, while the Southeast saw temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The Southern Plains rose into the 80s and 90s, while the Southwest saw temperatures in the 80s, 90s, and 100s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday have ranged from a morning low of 26 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a midday high of 102 degrees at Henderson, Nev.
